Love Song

I wanted to meet the prairie wind
I hoped to greet the mountain hope
I wished to write river's poetry --

To relish
The meaning of all living things.
No matter how brief a creature
No need to repeat the truth
Of cherishing it with careful respect.

Wind, though aplenty it may be
Preciously endures in blooming a periwinkle
Trees, though droop wearily
Do not lack enough to make a sunshade
And even morning dew,
Serves honeymilk to the dry grass.

Of joy,
Of cockscombs...
And of their beauties...
I always wanted to learn.

And even the sunshine,
The creeksongs, the windwhistles...
I wanted to love.
