Sterling Past

The silvery moon rains upon the arena;

A mocking grimace stirs in the wind.

The steel blade nails the rock,

Its heart wedged in alongside.

The faint memory smiles at the old days,

Betraying one's mindful monologue.

A lost bride looms up amidst the hazy sight,

A poised figurine of pearly pale.

The perplexed sword is rooted up in defense

Against the fragments of its own.

The virgin weeps but without tears.

Dazed and bewildered,

The sword leaps back and cries in pain.

She fades into the night,

Crescent light, a veil crestfallen.

Sleepless steel alongside,

The quiet warrior remains.
