I need healing from the aftermaths of my pride. I need to fix my conception of self-esteem. Many a time the principles seem so simple to grasp, but immersing myself in the truth is a whole another matter. I will let the Scriptures speak to me today:
==========================================
My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. For consider your calling, Dream, that there was not much wisdom in you according to the flesh, not much might, not much of anything that is worth of high esteem; but God has chosen you, who are foolish to shame the wise, and God has chosen you who are weak to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that you may boast before God.
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them you formerly lived in the lusts of your flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved you, even when you were dead in your transgressions, made you alive with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised you up with Him, and seated you with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward you in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourself, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For you are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that you would walk in them.
For he says, "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing." Even to your old age He will be the same, And even to your graying years He will bear you! He has done it, and He will carry you; And He will bear you and He will deliver you.
Clothe yourself with humility toward others, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourself under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. In repentance and rest you will be saved, In quietness and trust is your strength. His presence shall go with you, and He will give you rest.
May the Lord direct your heart into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.

ReplyDeleteLiterally less than 15 minutes ago I randomly opened up to this passage and was once again struck by the beauty of God's power and grace.
To God be the glory.
"But God has chosen you, who are foolish to shame the wise, and God has chosen you who are weak to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that you may boast before God."
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing, mind-boggling, self-abasing fact, isn't it? To make bloom a rose in the cruel wilderness... That is His power and grace, and the story of my redeemed life.
Haha, you are so poetic. :-D
