Tebow & face-conversing

Florida TEBOW Football.

It's not a joke.

I wonder how Tim feels when everyone makes such a big deal out of the guy. Don't get me wrong; I think he is awesome, and he does very well to exalt the Savior in the field. But it is perhaps more comfortable for the world to see him as the Super-heroic Florida Quarterback, rather than a guy who needs Jesus like the rest of us.

And you know, that--the gospel of Christ--is what actually makes him so cool. He is just a Jesus-follower, doing what he does best to glorify One who truly deserves to be exalted!! How cool and sweet is that? The Gators may triumph in a field of battle for a day, but against the powers in the world and in the heavenly places, there is no victory outside Christ (forgive the nerdy deliverance there). And indeed, "what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?" (Mark 8:36) Tebow knows this well.

Even as Tebow got injured with a concussion last night, I thought it ironic that God led him to paint Isaiah 40:31 on his face before the game. It is as if He wanted to remind Tebow the verse before ("the young men stumble and fall"), only to affirm in the next that He Himself is, indeed, the Everlasting Comforter.

I know; it is presumptuous, and perhaps a bit facetious, of me to analyze what Tebow might be learning in his walk with Christ right now (as I have a lot to work on myself). But it still brings me joy to see what God is doing in the world through His church. Who knows? One day, some unsaved rabid Gator fan may wake up and contemplate about the God of Tim Tebow, God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I also trust that this accident will only serve Tim well to deepen his faith, enrich his service and advance His kingdom. It's pretty awesome stuff!

Even youths grow tired and weary; the young men stumble and fall.
And those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength,
They will soar on wings like eagles',
They will run, and not grow weary,
They will walk and not be faint.

-Isa 40:30-31

May our Father heal our awesome brother well to bring Himself honor and glory.

  2. I'm a fan of Tebow's recent verses of choice, especially Mark 8:36 or 35.

  3. Huh. I didn't realize that he had that verse on for that game. I feel weird saying this, but that's pretty awesome.

    I like the post.
