Coloradan Church

I am sorry; but I just wanted to make the world aware about this Methodist service that David and I attended in Colorado... I realize that I make fun of my Southern Baptist denomination all the time; but after the service, I was thankful that I attended mostly good churches in my life. You think your church is imperfect? Think the worship is not to your taste or the sermon is dry? At least there are good churches to choose from in Gainesville -- I am so glad that there is a relatively strong Christianity in the South.

Here's a sample text from the service program:
Pure Worship

Pure Worship is about "You" connecting with God. Jesus said "Come away with me to a quiet place and get some rest." That is the simple purpose of Pure Worship: you finding a quiet place in the "noise" of your world to get some rest. It is our prayer that you find sacred space in this place. May your time with God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit be a blessing to you.

[Once we read this, I felt like I was participating in some kind of a mystical cult (in a dark room, with candles lit and everything). After singing some interesting, quiet songs that were supposed to help us to get in touch with our "inner self" (or the Holy Spirit, so they say), the preacher read a part of the Sermon on the Mount about the light of the world]

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." - Matt 5:14-16

[Then he talked about the content of this following prayer in regards to the text we read...???]

Dear God,
Teach me how to live in the present moment. In this way I will enjoy each simple task as I do it without thinking about hurrying on to the next thing. Send your Holy Spirit to help me focus on what I am doing, so I may enjoy the moment to Your Glory... [cut short]
