Yes, we can laugh about my first ticket (And to think that I got a speeding ticket before David ever did!). What I discovered when I got home was not so funny. I have my oath ceremony tomorrow to become a U. S. citizen, and I have to bring my answers to a list of questions for the ceremony. I had already completed it a week ago, and I remember thinking to myself that nothing could happen in a week. Sobering that one of the questions should read:
"Have you been arrested, cited, charged, indicted, convicted, fined or imprisoned for breaking or violating any law or ordinance, including traffic violations?"
I sheepishly changed one of my answers and fixed the signed date. Lord willing, the presiding officer at the ceremony will have mercy on me, but how humbling it is to remember that I can't even see an inch ahead of me!
May we continue to fear God while we still live.
"Come now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.' Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.' But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil. Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin."
- James 4:13-17
Aw, Dream!! That's such a bummer... right before your ceremony! But an interesting way for God to show us our silly human perceptions of the future. Good story!
