Be Thou My Vision

Finished Not Even a Hint tonight. The book illuminated certain sins I was refusing to let go in my life and helped to define them clearly. I also realized how much God has worked in this area of my life, from the beginning until now. How patient and gentle is He! How much moreso I should strive to glorify Him in every choice, every thought, and every deed. How much moreso I should daily live in this posture, continually immersing myself in the Word and relying on His grace.

Here is a passage of Scripture I found striking, despite the fact that Harris took it out of context. It is just so applicable to what I've been thinking about recently.

"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith." - Galatians 6:7-10

I need to fight the hardest when I feel the strongest. I should reflect on the sins which I believe to have been defeated, and think about how none of that was my effort but Grace. I need to escape the state of complacency; despair in self and hope in God. And to do that, I must actively seek to do good.

Thank God for teaching me His character. Thank God for loving me despite my character. What wish do I have but to do His will? I heartily and joyfully give praises of thanksgiving to Him who is giving, ever forgiving, ever blessing and ever blest.

===========================

1. Be Thou my vision,
O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me,
save that Thou art
Thou my best thought,
by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping,
Thy presence my light.

2. Be Thou my wisdom,
and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and
Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father,
and I Thy true daughter;
Thou in me dwelling,
and I with Thee one.

3. Riches I heed not,
nor man's empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance,
now and always:
Thou and Thou only,
first in my heart,
High king of heaven,
my treasure Thou art.

4. High king of heaven,
my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joys,
O bright heaven's sun!
Heart of my own heart,
whatever befall,
Still be my vision,
O ruler of all.
