As a former C.S. Lewis groupie, it is a bit of discomfort for me to announce this, but...
N.T. Wright > C.S. Lewis
I think I like Wright's historical approach better than Lewis' philosophical one. It actually is more persuasive, at least to me.
It finally makes sense from a historical point of view why Jesus, the Jewish messiah, did not meet the Jewish messianic expectation. (I'm not going to discuss it here today to the full extent; Maybe I'll write about it some other time.) That's been a long-time personal struggle and a question for me. Glad to find again that religion and history are not estranged sisters. "Christianity is about something that happened," as Wright puts it. "... the story of things that happened through which the world was changed... all about the belief that the living God, in fulfillment of his promises and as the climax of the story of Israel, has accomplished all this -- the finding, the saving, the giving of new life -- in Jesus."
