I love seeing people through fresh perspectives. I love being surprised about a person; I love it when they break my pre-conceived notions about them. You learn something new everyday.
How can I direct the focus towards the other person and not myself? How can I make our conversations fruitful and informative? How can I make the other person feel important and be cared for?
Such are the questions I ponder these days, because I've realized that the most genuine, mature Christians that I know attune their hearings to other people's circumstances. It takes a lot of thinking and concern which I am not used to... But I am working on it. It's amazing how much you can learn through doing this!
"This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger." - James 1:19

Very true. I wonder what communication would look like if everyone involved were quick to listen and slow to speak? I suppose there's a difference between "speaking" and "initiating" although it's probably very subtle.
ReplyDeleteI think the difference is that we initiate our conversations based on the other person's interest, not ours. We don't just start out of nowhere.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what to say other than... true that!
