If Jesus were here today...

Dad and I drove to the waste disposal place in our apartment complex this morning. We got there, but as we were getting out of the car, someone lifted the garbage bag up off our trunk.

I then saw the man. He turned around and warmly waved, the smile on his dark face shining brighter than a gemstone from the sun itself. He was missing an arm, and his limping became more pronounced as he climbed up the stairs with difficulty.

As he came down the stairs and waved once more to us strangers, I thought of some of the wealthy home owners in a nearby neighborhood who drive all the way here to discard their trash.

In spite of human selfishness, still, there are people who place a higher premium on relationships and character instead of fame or wealth or achievement, or even fun.

It was an encouraging reminder.
